Grandparentage DNA testing is used to identify biological relationships between children and their grandparents.
This form of DNA testing is often used in situations where the alleged father is unavailable for paternity testing. A child’s DNA will be compared to the DNA of the alleged father’s biological parents to determine their relatedness. In these DNA tests, it is often helpful to test the child’s biological mother as well as the paternal grandparents in order to more easily identify the relationship.
